Greyhound Lily is seriously Injured ,we need help to keep her healing .
Christchurch, Canterbury
Our beautiful Greyhound Lily was accidentally injured by our other Greyhound Sachi this morning
They love each other so much but Sachi has been very stressed by the fireworks and has not been eating . either she got cross with Lily or got a fright and nipped at her and Lily swung her body around and her fur and skin tore off one huge piece (aprox 25 cm long and 15 cm wide.
The surgery to repair Lily took over 3 hours and later that day she was transferred to overnight care at the after hours and was then taken back to our vets in the morning for day care .
The next week is going to be crucial for Lily as the worst outcome could be the skin starts to die and cause more complications .
Lily's recovery is going to be a long process .
She needs daily bandage changes at the vets, her fluid catheter drained ,possibly more after hours care , light therapy and ongoing vet supervision ,medicines etc ,worst case another surgery.
The team at Mcmaster And Heap have been amazing and have tried to help us with reducing some of the cost to us .
We do have Southern Cross pet insurance but we only have $3900 left on her policy until her next renewal.
We are currently at $5103.23 in Vet fees with a lot more to come .
We have always made sure to have good insurance coverage for all our fur babies but this injury we could never have imagined .
Its really hard asking for help but the reality is Lily will need ongoing care and any donation towards her recovery would be a blessing .
The money will be spent on her ongoing vet care
Lily's injury is severe and her recovery is going to take a long time .
she needs ongoing vet visits ,wound care and dressings, medicines , light therapy etc
Greyhound Lily"s healing journey 25 November 2023
Hi everyone
Our beautiful Lily had her stitches removed .
She has a couple of raw patches it was healing over really well but it must be itchy and irritating her as she has been trying to lick .
She is feeling well enough to now be able to head bang a cone off her head and she has now figured out how to flick and scratch a muzzle off.
I have to admit I cried today as I have been watching her like a hawk, sleeping in the lounge with her etc and it took less than 5 mins to get her muzzle off and take the scabs off again.
She now has her muzzle firmly tied to her collar .
She wants to play and run but we have to limit her to slow walk down the drive and she's leashed and tied when not in her crate.
I need to get her some chew toys etc to keep her occupied.
Our family has been so overwhelmed with the kindness and generosity shown to our family and Lily .
It has been a emotional and exhausting time with more to come but the support shown to our family has made it all the more bearable
Thank you again xxx
