Time to dry out after the flood, and rebuild a home & a life.
International
There are thousands of people affected by the extraordinary flooding in Lismore, NSW (and many other places). These two are MY people - my beautiful brother Hamish and his amazing partner Ramona.
The flood came up so rapidly overnight Sunday 27th Feb, that there was barely time to leave. Their house is up 3.5 metres high on stilts as this is a known flood area... but NEVER this high. The water came up over the floorboards in the small hours of the morning, and Hamish retreated to the ceiling space after lifting as many possessions to safety as he could. He was then trapped up high, and was rescued late morning by two angels in kayaks: thank you a Suenje & Casey, from the bottom of our hearts!! The water inside was over waist height. {Please keep reading ⬇️}
Along with thousands of homes, theirs is largely underwater. There is NO FLOOD INSURANCE available to those living in Lismore. Please, if you can spare as little as $3 to replace a packet of pasta, or a thousand dollars (!!) to put towards a fridge, a washing machine, and a new vehicle, your gift will be warmly appreciated. We can't do much from this far away, over the ocean, but we can offer THIS - help to rebuild their home and their lives, as they do so alongside their neighbours, their community, and their city.

I am passing around the collection hat for my brother Hamish, and his partner Ramona.

💦 Flood update, 17 March: MUD! 17 March 2022
We are so grateful for all the donations received so far 🙏🏼 our fundraiser is over half-way to our target of ✨ $20,000!!! ✨⭐️
Hamish plus his team of family, friends, and kind strangers have been flat out for almost 3 weeks now - cleaning a centimetre of mud off every item of clothing, crockery, etc that might be salvaged. Boards have been taken off walls to allow them to dry out, mould being treated, blistered paint is being stripped, and damage being removed ready to be replaced. Mum has done a million loads of washing, pressure-hosing off every item first before it can go in the machine. The Hilux ute (incredibly) powered up after some mechanical medicine 🤩 those vehicles are TOUGH. However, the mud and mould in the interior is another project. It's been estimated that two out of three houses flooded in Lismore will have to be demolished - a staggering catastrophe. Hamish and Ramona will eventually be able to return home, but this will be a long way off. We'd be so grateful if you could continue to react, comment, and share our posts on Facebook to enable more kind hearts to be reached who might be moved to contribute and support them to rebuild their lives. Thank you, friends.
