Dental surgery, not euthanasia. Helping this little rescue horse have a happy pain-free retirement.
Aongatete, Bay of Plenty
Misty is about 19 years old and came to me last year for retirement / sanctuary care. I have been covering his regular day-to-day costs (hoof trims, feed etc). He has lived with many families over the years, teaching a raft of little kids the joy of horses. He is incredibly sweet, patient and affectionate and deserves a happy retirement.
After including him in my herd’s annual dental check-ups, it turns out his mouth is in very poor shape and he is in pain with cracked and infected teeth. He needs X-rays and tooth extractions, and the vets have said that without this, euthanasia would be the kindest option. The estimate from the vet is for around $1800, possibly more depending on what is found once X-rays are done.
When confronted with the costs, his owner has opted for euthanasia. I’m not prepared for that to happen to this sweet boy, so he has now been officially surrendered to me. I am determined to find a way to get this vet bill covered and help him live a happy retirement. He has so much life and love in him!
I have never asked for contributions toward a rescue animal before, however this one is unexpected and out of my reach. I am hoping that my community can support me in getting him the dental care he needs so he can have the happy pain-free retirement he deserves.
Thank you for any help you can give
Veterinary care - xrays, sedation drugs and dental surgery etc
Misty is finally home 29 November 2024
Misty arrived home from the vets this week. He’ll need another dental check up in a few months, and regularly after this, but we are hoping he will be much happier and more comfortable now that the rotten teeth have been removed and the big hole through the bone from the infection has been treated.
Here’s a photo of him schmoozing with some visiting Japanese students today.
Thanks again for all your support xx
