Help support a brother and a humble man
Leithfield, Canterbury
As we know our dear friend Joe was diagnosed with metastatic cancer last year. He was given a limited time to live. His primary lung cancer had unfortunately had spread to the liver, kidney’s, vertebrae and brain.
2021 was a hard year for him, not only getting his mind around his diagnoses and then trying to get his affairs in order he also undergoing spinal surgery, radiation, many many Dr and hospital visits and then unfortunately he a stroke caused by the brain tumour. 3 weeks ago a massive seizure, due to the brain tumour, abruptly took away his ability to physically care for himself. His wish was to be in his own home at his beloved Leithfeild Beach where he can feel safe, connected and comfortable, that final wish has been respected and his best friend Ange is currently providing the most exceptional 24/7 nursing care possible. Some close friends and family are staying alternate nights as extra support.
Joe has been a roll model for so many, taking people under his wing, teaching and guiding them to follow the right path and been there at the drop of a hat if any of us needed him. He has been a protector to everyone and a great father figure to many. His non judgmental attitude made him an approachable friend to talk to. You always left his presence feeling better. He has a huge heart and is never afraid to show express his love to people and taught so many how to open their hearts and express that love, which is life changing for some. He also opened up minds and introduced us to his spiritual talents!
The reason I decided to open a give a little page was that so many have been sasking how they can help or support Joe and his family at this time and I thought this could be one way in which your help can make a huge difference. As you can imagine there are extra costs involved with caring for someone 24/7 is expensive and all of these extra costs add up over time. The usual everyday bills still come in and the next few days and weeks there will be unforeseen extra expenses that will need to be covered due to the current circumstances.
So if you are wanting to help in some way and you are in a position to donate just a little then this would be a great way to help and would be greatly appreciated. I know it will give Joe comfort and peace of mind if his bills are to be able to be covered. However times are tough for a lot of us out there and there is no need to feel guilty or pressured into donating. So please do not donate if you are not in a position to do so. A prayer or sending your love is even more special and will be gladly accepted and so appreciated.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and to those of you who love Joe I hope you are all doing ok.this is not an easy time for anyone. But please know the Joe loves all of you and would love to be able to tell you this in person but he is very tired and hazy right now and transitioning into getting ready for his next journey. Because he is a proud man he wants you all to remember him for the cheeky loveable rogue he was! He has touched our hearts and it has been a privilege to have shared so much love and so many memories with my bro, we have had some fun. I know he has touched you all in many different ways, so hold onto those memories and smile. Be reassured by knowing he is comfortable and peaceful at this time and a beautiful energy is around him. Much love to you all.
No words needed if you choose to donate, just place a love heart in the comment as Joe always said a love heart represented a thousand words. Xx
I am one of Jospeh Patchett’s close friends of 37 years. I was asked by Joe to be his Power of Attorney. I am here to advocate for him and to ensure his medical care needs are being met and his last wishes are adhered too.
Donations will cover costs for the extra things needed for Joes care, phamacy bills, comforts cares, ambulance bill, special dietary requirements, bills, storage fees, garden maintain/rubbish collection, hire cabin fees etc
Thank you 22 February 2022
As we hit the last day of this page, the family and on behalf of Joe would like to say a huge thank to each and everyone of you for your generous donations. We are all blown away by your support, your messages, your love. We have read out each individual donation and message to Joe so he is aware of every single person who has shown their support. To update you on Joes condition, he is still able to understand what we are telling him, but his ability to respond verbally has gone. He is now sleeping most of the time, is at peace and is extremely comfortable. We do feel that the end is not too far away now. Because of the incredible nursing skills and dedication by Ange who has not left Joes side, he has been able to remain at home where he feels safe and comfortable. A big thank you to Hurunui District Nursing Services who have visited daily to help with any other nursing care Joe has needed. You are all wonderful people to have dug deep and given at a time when we know most of you are struggling yourselves financially, so we really do appreciate what you have all done. Thank you so much it’s beyond words what this means to the family. Love to all. ❤️
