Please , Help me gain my quality of life
Nelson / Tasman
Hi !
I wish I could tell you more but in a short brief - I’m Sophie a 31 year old mother of four young children 10,9,6,4 declined public health care for a life changing treatment that will prevent further damage to nerve endings and other veins for a condition I have called PCS . I have tried many avenues such as MSD, Salvation Army and the good shepherds.
I have been Diagnosed with insufficient veins a hereditary issue in both legs due to pelvic congestion syndrome ,which is affecting my ability to work and my quality of life, causing a lot of pain.
Pelvic congestion syndrome is the varicosity of the ovarian veins within the pelvis . Causing chronic fatigue due to the lack of oxygen to my brain which has now caused POTS. As well as chronic pelvic pain.
What this means is that my blood is pumped down my legs but it can not circulate back up due to being born with valves in my veins that do not work .
Eventually my condition will lead to ulcers forming on my legs due the blood pooling.
The pelvic congestion treatment is upwards of 30 thousand NZD which is completely out of reach - so I have been advised by my specialist to just get my legs treated for now which is still a big cost plus the cost to travel to Christchurch .
I have battled the health system for 7 years and I have reached the point I am desperate to gain my health back
Thank you so much
Sophie
The money will be used for a treatment that I need to fix the insufficient veins .
The first step of my journey COMPLETE 14 November 2025
Hello everyone :) I’m so happy to report despite complications I am doing well - On Monday I had coils a metre in length inserted into my veins in my pelvis . A procedure called ovarian vein embolisation . I’ve attached a photo for reference on my condition and how they treat it .
This was to close off the source of my vascular issue .
In three months after healing has finished I will move on with my surgeon to the next step of having a similar procedure done on my legs to shut down all the veins that were unfortunately damaged from these problem veins in my pelvis ( this is the last part of my journey that you have all helped to cover due to this part not being covered or offered to me publicly )
I was extremely lucky after many news stories with Jess Roden and pleading with our health system that I was offered this embolisation of my veins (a 47 thousand dollar surgery ) , all done publicly in Christchurch !!
I’m really on the home stretch now to hopefully get back to my full self ❤️
I wanted to let everyone aware also , that I am now also advocating for women in similar positions to me who have had a pelvic congestion syndrome diagnosis but are not being offered any publicly funded treatments.
I’m hoping for change on that so others don’t have to suffer the same way I have .
Thank you so much for everyone who has helped me get to where I am today .
Sophie
