Our space for kids and young adults from refugee backgrounds has been well-loved over the last 7 years. Help us give her a facelift!
Auckland
Refugee Youth Action Network (RYAN) is the youth arm of leading New Zealand refugee mental health and wellbeing support service, RASNZ.
We provide free school holiday programmes for children and youth from refugee backgrounds, tutoring services, mentoring for university students and assistance with finding employment. We also organise social, sporting and leadership events for young people.
All of this activity means our space is, um, well-utilised...and it shows! We want our youth members and visitors from the wider Auckland community to feel welcomed and inspired when they enter our doors - but, after 7 years of constant and enthusiastic use by countless children and teenagers, our little hub is looking pretty shabby.
Help us raise funds for a lick of paint, a bit of landscaping, some new equipment (our beloved pool table is shaped rather like a ski slope)...and even a fabulous new mural on the outside of our building which everyone in the community can see and enjoy!
All work (aside from anything that has to be done by a licenced professional, of course) will be done by volunteers - including the youth themselves.
Any extra funds donated will go directly towards the core costs of running this life-changing service for young people.
RASNZ is Aotearoa's leading provider of mental health and wellbeing support for people from refugee and asylum-seeker backgrounds. Our clinical and community-based services are focused on helping former refugees thrive as kiwis.
Your donated funds will go towards paying for paint, brushes & rollers, landscaping materials and new equipment (replacement pool table, outdoor sports gear, etc.). All extra funds will go towards the core costs of operating this free service for youth.
Our new RASNZ Youth mural! 17 August 2018
Thanks to everyone who donated to the RASNZ Youth beautification project, we were able to collaborate with professional muralist, Laken Whitecliffe, to create this stunning mural (it actually wraps around the whole building, but we can only upload one photo here)! The addition of this colourful, vibrant piece has breathed new life and vigor into what was a very tired space. More than a dozen young people from refugee backgrounds joined us on a Saturday to co-create this piece. Nga Mihi everyone who has walked beside us on this journey!
