Our refugee background ladies' football team is ready for their first tournament, but they need uniforms!

Auckland

RASNZ Youth is the youth arm of refugee mental health service, RASNZ. This vibrant programme provides support and guidance to young people, aged 5-24, with age and culturally-appropriate engagement and empowerment opportunities. Activities include school holiday programmes, youth leadership camps, social groups, sports teams and more.

Earlier this year, we established our first young women's football (soccer) team and, over the last 6 months, we've grown from 4 to nearly 30 regular players! The team is led by RASNZ Youth staff and some incredible volunteer coaches, several of whom are former Football Ferns players.

At the end of November, our ladies will be taking part in their very first tournament, the Communities Football Cup...but there's one little problem: We don't have uniforms!

On October 29th, we hosted a coffee festival at Crave cafe in Morningside, which successfully raised $600 towards the cost of purchasing uniforms. Help us reach our final goal of $1,700 so that we can send our ladies out onto the field with pride!

*$1,700 is enough for us to purchase 30 sets of uniforms and 15 sets of shin guards, which the ladies will be able to use for the November tournament and beyond!*

For these young women, all of whom come from refugee backgrounds, Monday night football practice is a chance to socialise, build connections across different cultures, practice English and keep fit. This is so much more than just a football team!

About us

RASNZ is Aotearoa's leading provider of mental health and wellbeing support for people from refugee and asylum-seeker backgrounds. Our clinical and community-based services are focused on helping former refugees thrive as kiwis.

Use of funds

All money raised up to $1,100 will be spent on uniforms (t-shirts, shorts and socks), as well as shin guards. Any amount exceeding the target will be put towards RASNZ Youth sports programme costs.

This photo was taken at last night's practice. Despite being at the height of university exams, we still got a great turnout...and the team was rewarded with the news that our fundraising target was met and EXCEEDED! We can't wait to see them decked out in their new uniforms!!
