Help Fi Fly (NZ flag at 2023 24Hr World Champs)

I'm rapt to have been selected by Athletics New Zealand (ANZ) to "fly" the New Zealand (NZ) flag at the 2023 International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) 24-Hour World Championships in Taiwan (1 December). For 24 hours, I’ll run around a 2km tarmac circuit, accumulating the most kilometres I can. This will be my third attempt at this gruelling format.

My first 24-Hour was in 2018 at the IAU 24Hr Asia and Oceania Championships in Taiwan. I achieved 202.32km, placed fourth female (highest ranking Kiwi), and helped secure a bronze medal for the NZ women's team.

A few months later, I was off to France to represent NZ at the 2019 IAU 24Hr World Championships. I ran 210.134km (a PB of +8km, and the highest ranking Kiwi).

I’m thrilled to have earned this third opportunity to run for 24 hours whilst wearing the silver fern. To ensure I'm at the top of my game, I've been 100% committed to the significant hours of training and sacrifices required. I could however do with help on the financial front.

Unlike some other sportspersons representing NZ on the world stage, ultra-runners have no funding. To line-up at the 24Hr World Champs is fully self-funded, costing around $5,000.
