To raise funds for the surgery and rehabilitation of George the dog for his cruciate ligament injury
Auckland
George is a loveable four-year-old Staffy/Huntaway Cross, popular with kids, adults, and other dogs. He has a big toothy smile and loves snuggling with friendly humans. Since he was a puppy, George and his mother have been on a chain looking after a yard. In other words, a life-chained dog. Three years ago I (Alex) started walking George and looking out for him and his mother. Since then his life has improved, with daily walks and two meals a day.
George suffers from arthritis, and one month ago he tore his rear cruciate ligament. This means he is unable to walk long distances, play, or run with his mum, which is heartbreaking for such a young and happy dog. The vet advises that self-repair through conservative management is unlikely for a dog of his size, and that surgery will be required for both legs. In total, including both medications and surgery costs, this will amount to an estimated NZ $4,500.
Myself and George's owners are not in a position to pay for the cost of the surgery. His leg is causing him a lot of pain, and needs to be treated as soon as possible to avoid further injury. Your donation will help to give George a long and happy life. Thank you.
To pay for IV Fluids, Betamox injection, Excede injection Anesthetist fee, Theatre Fee, Temgesic injection, Headcollar, Antibiotic tabs, anti-inflammatory tabs, follow up surgery, pain management. Unused funds will be for George/his mum's ongoing care.
George Can Walk Again! Tough Second Stage... 9 May 2021
George can walk again - I shot this video yesterday. Although he walks much more naturally - he does have a slight limp in his right front leg - maybe compensation. I'll ask the vet about it next month.
Although this is good news - he is not allowed to (officially) run for another SIX MONTHS! This is to allow his muscle in that leg to get strong. He IS encouraged to go for long walks - so if anyone knows of long day hikes not far from Auckland city (paybe offleas so Gemma ca run in front? ) do let me know!
Anyway, we've done it! He can walk again..I'll be happier when he can run and play as before but this progress has been solid and its satisfying. I'll be watchful of that limp.
This is truly wonderful. A blessed Christmas for George and for institutions like givealittle, based here in 'Godzone' I'll bring the surgery date forward and George will be on track to playing with his mother that much earlier. Words cant express - except to say thankyou!! Ill be doing updates on his journey so will keep you and other donors up to date. Calling the vet this morning
Thankyou Anastasia! I could tell how much George and his Mum (and me) enjoyed meeting you both.
Sending good vibes to (((( Layla )))) girl. Thankyou so much A - Im glad she is on the mend. It helps to know someone else has had the op for their dog and knows what to expect. I think B mentioned it at the vet but it didnt register - was in a bit of shock after finding out what it was. Massive to have the funding on its way like this... XOX
Thankyou! With your kind help we are getting there! Wishing you and your family a very lovely Christmas and brilliant New Year!
P - George wants to send you a card. Look out for it! XoX
