Help get Ed (my cat) to Aussie with me so we can be with family & start afresh.
Upper Hutt Central, Upper Hutt
I have had a lot to figure out work and life wise in the past few months, particularly after a tough month of work issues. As such, I have an opportunity to move to Australia, which will bring me closer to my friends and family in Queensland by the end of June 2023. It is not a decision that has come lightly, but it means starting afresh with work and setting up a house and life in another country. It also means I want to take my cat, Ed, with me.
Ed has been with me since the day he was born in October 2015. He was there for me while I was awaiting a medical diagnosis, during and after my spinal surgery before Christmas that year, and has been with me ever since. Ed has been my best friend, therapist, snuggle buddy and more, and he means the everything to me. Last year, he had his own health issue, which we were lucky to get sorted quickly. It would mean the world to me to be able to take Ed with me to Queensland.
In order to make up the costs, I am selling nearly everything I own, while also working on my business in order to raise the money to cover Ed’s flights and boarding costs for when we arrive in Queensland. He will have to board to begin with while I get the house sorted.
I don’t like to ask for help like this, but I can’t leave NZ without my boy! We will be forever thankful to remain together <3'
I have been quoted $2500 for his flights and I have been told it will be roughly about $500-600 for his boarding and what he needs while boarding (his anxiety stuff and his special prescription diet).
It's been a full on 2wks since we landed in Aus but heres a full update from us! 5 July 2023
Ive been looking at many houses/apartments for Ed + I, finally secured 1 last Friday (30/06) after some amazing luck! I swear it's bcos I found my Alice in Wonderland charm I couldn't find before leaving Welly! The apartment I managed to get us was 1 i looked at online originally when I first talked abt moving to Linda & things when everything fell apart with my job. Unfortunately it’s not furnished, which makes it harder, but my main goal was a roof over our heads. Ive paid our bond & 1st couple of wks rent & have enough for abt a month's worth of rent & some living expenses for us. What I wasn't prepared for was an extra week at cattery for Ed or having to try to scramble for furniture. The main items we need are a Fridge/Freezer & Washing Machine. I'm ok with a cheap air bed till Im working. Im searching regularly on Fbk Marketplace & anywhere I can for these secondhand but have a minor transport issue. Ive found a place for new whiteware cheap +free delivery which I can get a washing machine for $479aud & a fridge/freezer $663aud. Im applying for jobs this week, I’m pretty much applying to any job I know I can do within retail & hospo. This wk so far I have been up to see Ed & give him snuggles & we had his nails cut. He loves the vet nurses & watching nature docos. Definitely looking fwd to bringing him home this wknd! I still need to get a large bag of his prescription biscuits ($150/3 mth), new water fountain, litter/litter box before I bring him home.
