Help James Dimock represent New Zealand at the Junior World Rowing Championships
Auckland
I have been selected to represent New Zealand Under 19 Double Sculls at the Junior World Rowing Championships, held in St Catherines, Canada, in August 2024.
Every year Rowing New Zealand selects and prepares crews to compete at the U19 World Rowing Championships. The U19 Programme is a critical part of the Rowing New Zealand High-Performance Programme as the athletes selected are being prepared to fill the ranks of NZ Elite teams in the future. The pinnacle events for the Elite teams are the Senior World Championships and Olympic Games.
I'm 17 yrs and in Year 13. I have had consistent rowing podium performances at pinnacle events for the last four years while proudly rowing for Macleans College in East Auckland, based from St George’s Rowing Club. I live to row and train most days on Tamaki River and gym training at my local gym - Jetts Howick.
Rowing NZ U19 Training Camp will take place 6 consecutive weeks from 23 June – 5 August at Lake Kārapiro. I will move away from my family to live at Lake Kārapiro to train intensively and continue my schooling online. The U19 Team will participate in the Squad Sessions alongside the New Zealand Under 23 team to practice and fine-tune race plans.
The trip to Canada consists of training and racing, from 5 - 28th August 2024.
I hope my efforts will inspire the nation and its communities, and potentially deliver a podium performance.

In Summary 2 September 2024
James Dimock has wrapped up his U19 World Rowing Championships campaign in Canada.
James and his rowing partner, Marley King Smith, had a great start to their campaign - winning their Men's Double Sculls heat to progress straight through to the semifinal.
Illness struck Marley prior to the semifinal, resulting in compromised fitness. The boys finished in fourth place, only 0.41s behind Australia, missing out on the A Final.
James and Marley beat Spain, Switzerland, USA, Taiwan, China and Lithuania in their heat and semifinal.
The B Final saw James rowing with Jimmy Middleditch, after Marley King Smith withdrew due to illness. James and Jimmy finished the B Final in sixth place.
James is thankful for this incredible experience and extends heartfelt thanks to you for your support.
