We are on a massive roller coaster ride with cancer. If you would like to help we say a big thank you.
Camborne, Porirua
Joss was diagnosed with stage 4 grade 3 cancer in December 2023. Her prognosis is terminal. She has undergone 6 rounds of chemotherapy and 15 rounds of radiation within the last year.
Sadly the cancer has spread further and the next option is immunotherapy and chemotherapy to give her more time with us.
Joss and Kevin have had health Insurance through Southern Cross for over 40 years. We thought Joss was covered for $60,000 per year for the two drugs needed. They are both Pharmac approved for chemotherapy (Lenvatinib) and immunotherapy (Pembrolizumab) for cancer. However, these drugs are not Pharmac funded unless you have cancer in other places - not where Joss has it. This cover has turned out to be only $10,000 as this wording "approved" actually means "funded" as far as Southern Cross is concerned. This changes the amount we have to fund to around $98,000.
We have had several people who would like to show their support, ask us if we have a Givealittle page to give to, so setting up this page seems a perfect solution to enable this to happen.
Joss is my wife. We have been on this journey for over a year and despite what is in front of her/us she has always been positive, has been very transparent sharing her journey so that people around us don't feel awkward. She is also a proud woman.
Immunotherapy and chemotherapy drugs (Lenvatinib & Pembrolizumab). The treatments cost $12,000 per month. Money raised will be used to support what we are paying for
Help Joss’s Cancer Treatment 8 August 2025
Hi all
We are drawing close to our nominated close date (22 August)for the request for support so I thought I would give one last update on how Joss is going. Our last visit to the oncologist confirmed that the treatment is working in that the cancer is being held. This is great news compared to what we have heard previously. How long this will last is not known but for now we keep the treatment going until it stops working ( which unfortunately will happen at some point). We are hoping the current state will last for a good length of time. Joss has lost quite a lot of weight and still suffers ongoing side affects of the chemo drugs ( upset stomach) but being the trooper she is, she is managing this as best she can - while still maintaining that positive view of life. I am in awe of her strength.
With the blessing of our doctors we are heading to Oz next week for 10 days to catch up with family. We are both looking forward to a change in scenery.
Finally I would like to say a big thank you to all of you who have responded to this page. Your love, support and generosity have meant so much to both of us and has helped us manage a tough situation, comforted by the knowledge that so many people care for us.
God bless and thank you
