Help Kookie Recover from Kissing Spine

Hi everyone,

This is Kookie, our 4-year-old thoroughbred. We’ve only had him for 8 weeks, and in that time we’ve been working hard to improve his condition and give him the best start.

Unfortunately, after veterinary assessment and X-rays, Kookie has been diagnosed with Kissing Spine — a painful spinal condition that requires careful, ongoing rehabilitation.

Our vet has recommended a structured rehab plan, including:

- Steroid injections to reduce pain and inflammation

- Ongoing physiotherapy sessions (approximately $180 per session)

- Specialist rehab tools such as an Equi-Band system and a Photizo therapy device

- Arena hire (approximately $60 per week) to ensure safe, consistent footing during rehabilitation work, as uneven ground can worsen spinal strain

- Careful ongoing monitoring and progressive strengthening work

We are fully committed to giving Kookie every chance at a comfortable and healthy future. We are doing everything we can ourselves to support Kookie’s care, and truly appreciate any support and help toward his journey and these additional costs.
