Help me protect the wishes and hopes of my late mother. I can't do this on my own.
Stanmore Bay, Whangaparaoa
On December 22nd, 2023, my mother lost her battle with breast cancer. Now after almost 2 years of heartbreak and coming to terms with the loss of the one constant in my life - my only parent - I find myself fighting a legal battle to protect her wishes as stipulated in her will. A battle I can not afford on my own.
My mother was a selfless woman, with so much compassion for others, and a deep rooted desire to simply be loved. She was the woman who put together food hampers for a family she didnt know, when they couldn't afford to feed their children. Who rescued baby bunnies that got caught on the farm, and tended to her garden with pride. The woman who dropped a coin in the slot of a mechanical ride, just so a strangers little kid would smile. Who would do anything for her family and friends - furry or otherwise.
Her one hope at the end was to secure some semblance of a stable future for me, her only child, after all we had faced together through life. I am asking our community to help me keep that hope alive and protected.
Legal fees required to defend my mother's wishes, as stipulated in her will, including lawyer fees, administration and filing fees, and documentation costs ($5,000 per month).
If the case goes to litigation, legal fees will be approximately $50,000 and I will post a page update with more details.
The ball is rolling. 3 March 2026
Now that thing's are settling down after the Christmas and new year period, we have had time to regroup with lawyers and finally make some headway.
Counter offers for negotiations should be in by the end of next week, and we are feeling optimistic that some sort of agreement can be made. Of course this adds to the fee's, but it can't be avoided. The current estimate for my next bill is sitting at $2,300 (incl GST).
On the executors side of things, we were quoted for a $6,000 retainer. But have opted to put actions on hold until we know whether or not an agreement can be made through negotiations.
Fingers crossed all parties can come together and make a reasonable resolution.
Thank you very much, Anni ❤️
