We want to get a new All Terrain Mobility Scooter so Megs can just get around and enjoy life
Bay Of Plenty
My wonderful friend Megs has CMT. What is CMT?
It is a genetic condition that causes slow degeneration of muscles. Nerve messages don't reach the muscles so they slowly degenerate. All the day to day things we take for granted are sometimes impossible for those with CMT. Just taking a walk is often just too hard. Imagine it being a massive task to get up and make a coffee.
She lives in constant pain but somehow manages, most days, to put a smile on her face. She has had countless surgeries to fuse bones and due to the CMT has had multiple falls resulting in more surgeries - some which she is still waiting for due to ACC not accepting her claim. She gets tired doing simple things and getting out and about is really hard.
Her mobility scooter was not fit for purpose and has given up. She now has to walk her dogs which is becoming increasingly impossible. Her goal is to be able to go around the Mount. She needs a mobility scooter to do this. Ultimately she needs a van to transport the scooter to where she going so the All Terrain scooter she gets can cope with everyday use. But we will start with a scooter! Any excess funds raised will go towards that van
She taught swimming for me for a number of years as it was one thing she could do being weightless in the water. She made a difference in so many young lives and now she needs some help.
I have known Megs and have been privileged to call her a friend for about 18 years. She is one of the most amazing, strong and resilient people I know. She won't ask for help for so I'm doing it for her.
An All Terrain Mobility Scooter and van to transport it. A mobility scooter will be the first thing bought then we will look at the van
Help desperately needed 7 August 2025
This is why we need help for Megs. She's trying to stay active but it's getting so hard.
Megs is also having some breathing difficulties so having a way to get around is even more essential.
Well, eventful walk at Morland Fox Park this afternoon. I was walking Echo and Koda who we're babysitting atm. Koda bowled me over and I fell. He was just excited and not watching. It was also the first time I've walked him by myself.
Now I've always envisioned if that happened I'd snap my arm in the crutch but thankfully I managed to get my arm out in time.
The other thing I'd envisioned was how would I get up. I can't get up myself because of the way my legs and feet can't move.
Thank goodness there were two city council workers there and when I yelled for help they came over and helped me up.
Thank you
