Help MenzShed Kapiti to Build New Facilities Help build our Future for Your Community

Wellington

MenzShed Kapiti was established in 2010 as an Incorporated Society and Registered Charitable Entity. We started with 25 members and an old double garage made available by the Kapiti Coast District Council at their old works depot at Waikanae Beach.

Since then membership has grown to over 100 members. Although we have built some additional shed space - we are bursting at the seams - we need proper kitchen and toilet facilities and more workshop space to accommodate the 50 or so men who come to the Shed on a Tuesday and Thursday.

One small section of the workshop has been turned into a makeshift kitchen but the morning tea and briefing sessions are a stand-up arrangement out under the veranda. Not very pleasant on a cold wet day.

Toilet facilities are very basic - a builder's site toilet - not very comfortable for the older men.

The remaining workshop areas are full of tools, machinery and materials - mostly donated by the local community from their workshops and garages. Machines and work benches have to be moved outside or under the veranda to provide space to work safely.

This is your opportunity to make a difference to your community.

Your donations will help make it possible for MenzShed Kapiti to build these much-needed facilities.

The additional workshop space is urgently needed to allow the men to work in a safer environment that is not dependent on the weather.

Proper kitchen, toilet, office, and meeting facilities are needed for the men at the shed and will be available for other users of the site.

Over the past two years MenzShed Kapiti has used its funds to work thru and obtain a Resource Consent for the development of the site, to have the engineering and architectural plans and specifications completed, and to obtain a Building Consent for the new facilities.

These new facilities will allow MenzShed activities to grow to better cater for the health and wellbeing needs of the Kapiti men. The facilities will also allow us to broaden the range of activities we undertake for the Kapiti Coast community.

About us

MenzShed Kapiti is a great place for promoting the health and wellbeing of men. A place for them to have a cuppa and a chat and have access to workshop facilities so they can take up their tools and work together on community projects as well as doing their own thing. They can share their know-how, practice their skills, and learn new skills.

Use of funds

The estimated cost of the project is $250,000. The funds raised from this page will go directly to our Building Fund to supplement the funding from the major funding organisations.

Ready Set for Stage 2 of the Development  14 June 2019

The old concrete foundations and floor slab near the entry to the MenzShed site is now just a memory thanks to Goodman Contractors who arrived with a digger and truck and tore up the old concrete and carted it away. With the garage nearing completion, the building team at the Shed can now begin the setting out of the foundations for the new amenities building.
