Restore the walking access into the scenic Ohau valley in Tararua Forest Park
There are two slips on the Ohau Gorge track at Poads road near levin. DOC have lifted the closure of the track, subject to our group undertaking repairs to the track to ensure future erosion will not occur and the track is safe to walkers, trampers and others wanting to visit the valley and also use the huts and track beyound.
The GWBN intend to improve the condition of the track and will continue regualr maintenance so that the track is suitable for day walkers as well as trampers and hunters.
The Ohau river at the end of the track is a picturesc area with a area for camping and picnicing beside the river.
We have also recently finished overdue maintenance on the Gable End track and will be looking at improving this track further.
Funds raised from this Give a Little page will be used to purchase and transport material into the track so repairs can begin.
we encourage recreational use in local forest parks by maintaining tracks and huts and fostering volunteer participation in the care of the forest parks
Materials for repairs and helicopter hire for transport.
