Help us raise $400,000 by June 2023 so Governors Bay Jetty can re-open for everyone to use.
Governors Bay, Canterbury
The historic 300-metre long jetty in Governors Bay was almost lost. A small group of people would not take "no" for an answer when Christchurch City Council decided not to repair and reopen it. They have been working hard for 8 years and work on rebuilding the jetty is finally underway.
This much-loved community facility, used by people from all over Christchurch, was closed after the February 2011 earthquake.
It is simply called “the jetty”, but it is so much more than the word conveys. Once it is re-opened, it will be used for many things. These include walking, fishing, swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, dog-walking, jetty jumping, weddings, water safety training, education (about the marine environment and geology), bird watching, and photography. Or just walk out over the water and enjoy the dramatic, volcanic landscape and listen to the soothing sounds of the sea.
The rebuild costs $3.5 million and we have raised most of the money. We only need to raise another $400,000 and ask everyone from Christchurch and beyond to be a part of this amazing story and get us there.

Thanks to the generosity of jetty supporters, we rebuilt the jetty. However, we took out a loan to get the job done so we are still fundraising to pay for the new jetty.
Every dollar donated will pay for the rebuild of the jetty. We are volunteers so we have no salaries to pay. If we don't meet our target, then all the Givealittle money will be used to pay for the rebuild and we will do other fundraisers for the rest.
Thank you! We will recognise your donation with a plaque on a plank on the new jetty. Thank you for contacting us about that, as Givealittle doesn't share donor's details (and fair enough).
Your message will be displayed on the page and emailed to the donor.
Your new message will also be emailed to the donor.
