Mid-winter jetty jump to raise money for the newly rebuilt Governors Bay Jetty
Governors Bay, Canterbury
Sponsor someone to plunge off the jetty into the icy waters of Governors Bay the weekend before winter solstice.
This is a jump for a cause! Our goal is to raise $2000 towards paying for the newly built jetty.
For the brave swimmers and jetty jumpers, round up support from your friends and family - they can sponsor you on the link below and leave some words of encouragement on this page!
For those who want to jump or swim into the wintery water, it's FREE but registration is required. Do that by getting a ticket: https://events.humanitix.com/mid-winter-swim-and-jetty-jump.
About the event:
* Sunday 16 June 2024, 11.30am to 1pm.
* Organised by Canterbury Open Water Swimming Association and Governors Bay Jetty Restoration Trust.
* Registration required - there is a limit of 40 jumpers/swimmers for safety and space
* The water will be VERY cold. Bring something to dry yourself and warm, dry clothes to put on afterwards.
* There will be a sausage sizzle on the jetty - bring cash.
* Please park up by the school and walk down to the jetty - parking at the jetty is needed for the organisers.
Thanks to the generosity of jetty supporters, we rebuilt the jetty. However, we took out a loan to get the job done so we are still fundraising to pay for the new jetty.
To pay for the newly rebuilt Governors Bay Jetty and improvements to the jetty.
We did it!!! 16 June 2024
What a day!!!
We have raised $2100 (via this page, other donations, and the sausage sizzle) so far. Every cent goes to paying the rebuild of this magnificent structure.
There were 45 brave swimmers and although the water was cold, it was a groovy shade of turquoise.
Thank you to COWSA for making this happen. Thank you to our volunteers. Thank you to everyone who has donated. And thank you to everyone who plunged into the cold waters for "fun". None of this would have happened without all of you.
We will send participants a link to photos and videos.
Your message will be displayed on the page and emailed to the donor.
Your new message will also be emailed to the donor.
