Help save one of Wellington's most iconic structures, the City-to-Sea Bridge.
Wellington
We are seeking your support to help retain Wellington's City-to-Sea Bridge, which links Te Ngakau - the Civic Square and the waterfront, including the associated structures. Wellington City Council voted to demolish the bridge in December. Legal action is under way to overturn the decision and has prevented demolition over the summer months. The full case is to be heard in late April at the High Court. We urgently need funds to support this legal action. The City-to-Sea bridge is iconic, appreciated by Wellingtonians and visitors alike. It is recognised as an important art work and takes people safely over Jervois Quay. It provides stunning views of the harbour. It helps make Wellington the special place that it is. There is no reason to demolish it.
Wellington Civic Trust is leading the the case, supported by Wellington Architectural Centre, the Save the City-to-Sea Bridge group, and many individual citizens. We need your help in funding the next stage of the judicial review of the Council's decision. Thank you for every donation you are able to make!
If you donate, you agree that the Wellington Civic Trust will direct the use of the funds as they see fit. This will be primarily to fund legal and other advocacy and challenges to Council intentions for the City to Sea Bridge, including ancillary activities. Any funding left over from this action may be used for other Trust purposes.
The Save the City-to-Sea Group has been set up to support the Civic Trust's case against the Council's decision. It is a group of concerned citizens, including architects, engineers, planners and many others.
The money will be spent on the costs of continuing legal action (judicial review) to overturn the Council's decision to demolish the City-to-Sea Bridge.
Last Days for Givealittle Giving for City-to-Sea Bridge 27 May 2025
This is almost the last hurrah for this page. We would like to thank the 60+ people who have made donations towards our legal expenses. This has been a huge part of our campaign and has demonstrated how many Wellingtonians (and former Wellingtonians) support keeping the City-to-Sea Bridge. Alongside you wonderful people have been an equal number who have contributed directly into the Franks Ogilvie Trust Account. We are closing this page on 1st June, so please remind people that they have a just few more days to contribute here or they can continue to make contributions directly to Franks Ogilvie's Trust Fund. Jump on our FB page https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61571749974530 if you want to keep up with our activities. Finally, thank you so much again!
