Why am I fundraising instead of just getting a job?
2 July 2025I understand this question. Right now, there are barriers:
We are recovering from family violence. I’m on a Victim of Family Violence work visa, and appealing to the Immigration and Protection Tribunal after my residency application was declined.
My mental health has been affected by trauma and legal processes.
My visas are short-term (six months), making stable medical care hard to access.
I’m the full-time caregiver for my son with additional needs. I cannot get the Disability Allowance or respite support because of my visa.
My ex-partner’s passing has complicated things in Family Court, despite a final parenting order issued in March 2025.
My long-term goal is to raise my son in New Zealand, per my ex-partner’s final wishes. I hope to get my driver’s license, a car, retraining, a job, and proper health and support services for us — which we’ve been denied because of my visa status.
My son is a New Zealand citizen and deserves a secure, stable future.
Your support truly makes a difference while I work toward safety, stability, and residency.
