Fundraising for living costs and care for don dealing with terminal cancer
Milson, Palmerston North
For over 21 years, my stepfather, Don Tamihana, has been a friendly and familiar face in our community as a local driver of cab 28 at Palmerston North taxis. More than just getting people from A to B, Don was known for his kindness, his listening ear, and his genuine care for everyone he met. He prayed for his passengers, encouraged them, and made sure they felt safe and valued.
Outside of work, Don’s heart for people never stopped. He quietly helped feed the homeless and those doing it tough, asking nothing in return. He’s given so much to our community — now he’s the one who needs our help.
Don has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, and the time we have left with him is short. He can no longer work, and we want to ensure he is comfortable, supported, and surrounded by love ones. Funds raised will go towards his care costs, living expenses, and helping our family make the most of the precious time we have left together.
If Don has ever driven you home, shared a prayer with you, or simply brightened your day with his smile, please consider giving back to the man who has given so much to others. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a real difference.
From our family to yours — thank you for your kindness, generosity, and prayers.

Final Update on Don’s Journey 14 October 2025 20 October 2025
It’s with heavy hearts that we share that Don passed away peacefully at home on the 14th of October, surrounded by his loving family. He fought with incredible courage and strength right to the very end.
Mum was by his side every step of the way, just as she has been through this entire journey — her love and care never wavered. Don was safe, loved, and held close by those who meant the most to him.
Our family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of kindness, messages, prayers, and donations that have supported us through these difficult months. Your love has lifted us in ways words can’t describe.
Thank you for standing with Don and with us. His strength, humour, and heart will live on in all who knew him.
Rest easy, Don — forever loved. 💛
