Help support Skye during and after her open brain surgery.

Help support Skye and her family during and after her open brain surgery.

Nelson

Hello Friends, Family, and Community:

The Beamers (Skye, sister Kaia, Jenny and James) had their beautiful world turned upside down this past June, when they noticed that 3.5 year old Skye’s right eye was not tracking and then began to bulge. After multiple specialist appointments and an MRI, they learned that Skye had already lost all of her vision in the eye due to a brain tumor, which is located on her optic pathway.

Due to the location and size of the tumor Skye is scheduled to undergo open brain surgery this Friday (26/8/2022) in Christchurch to have the tumor removed. Sadly, the sight in her right eye cannot be regained, but the long term prognosis is optimistic for removal of the tumor.

Skye and her family will have to spend 2 weeks in Christchurch while Skye recovers from brain surgery. Recovery at home will be another four to six weeks, and will require that her parents take extended time off of work to focus on her healing and subsequent therapies. Skye may have to undergo multiple surgeries on her eye.

Let’s come together to help ease the financial burden so that Jenny and James can focus on caring for their little Skye.

Thank you for coming together to support and bring light to a kind and beautiful family, during their darkest times.

Use of funds

Funding will be to support the family as they take time off work while little Skye recovers and adjusts to life after brain surgery, ongoing expenses when they will have limited income, and any other unexpected expenses related to Skye’s recovery.

Thank you  8 September 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donations. Skye's surgery on 26 August went well, and the surgeon feels confident he removed the tumor. She will have a repeat MRI in a few months. While her head is still very swollen and her right eye closed, the eye specialist feels confident the muscles will return to lift her lid. We returned home to Nelson yesterday and she will be followed here for any ongoing appointments, surgery or rehabilitation. We sincerely want to thank each and every one of you, as your contributions have made it so much easier for us to focus on Skye while we were in Christchurch and fund all of the additional expenses and travel, along with allowing us to take time off work to be with her during her ongoing recovery. We are forever grateful. Lots of love to each of you, Jen, James, Skye and Kaia.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
