Help the Lower Hutt Cat Colony Population

Help with managing cat colonies in Taita and Wainuiomata. Humans have previously let these cats down now it is our turn to make it right.

Wellington

Want to help make a difference to Wellingtons cat population? We will do the hard work we just need the support behind us.

We have been trapping at a cat colony in Taita and have just started trapping at a cat colony in Wainuiomata. Our Taita colony has between 12-15 adult cats all a range of different ages and sexes. Our Wainuiomata colony has between 7-10 adult cats all a range of different ages and sexes, with multiple females pregnant.

Now a lot of these cats have never lived inside and may not be able to be domesticated and rehomed. This is where our issue comes in, we have talked about doing Trap, Neuter and Release if the cats can not be rehomed. The people who oversee the colonies are happy with this but this leave the charity with some pretty big bills to find money for.

Just to give you a rough idea, Females cost us $180 to desex and Males cost us $95. If we desex all these cats we are looking at +$3000 the charity has to find. We will also need to purchase some more crates for these cats to be housed in and these are about $80 each. We are really desperate to get this colonies sorted out before the next "breeding season" starts.

These cats have been previously let down by humans and we are trying to make it right but can not do it without some help with funding. Please consider sponsoring a desexing of one of these colony cats or funding a crate.

About us

We are a non-profit registered Cat Rescue located in Lower Hutt, Wellington. We pride ourselves on helping cats and kittens in need whether they be abandoned, unwanted, sick, injured or wild.

Use of funds

The majority of the money will be spent on vet bills for the desexing of the cats. We will also use it to purchase some more crates to house the cats and supplies to provide preventative health care and feed the cats.

Two big males caught  1 June 2021

We got a two for one deal in one of our traps and caught two males. They will be getting desexed and both look like they should be rehomeable rather than released back.

Two in one trap well that definitely warrants a performance bonus. Great to get these lads off the street and hopefully on to some kind people' couch soon.
