Tremayne is a talented young athlete and is hoping to travel to Jamaica to train. Let’s give him this amazing opportunity.
Auckland
Tremayne is a hard-working, respectful young man (only 14 years old) and is an emerging athletic talent. Tremayne’s main athletics focus is High Jump under coach Rob Davis; he has also shown promise in Long Jump, Hurdles and we are hoping to grow it further with sprinting! Tremayne is based at Avondale Athletics Club in Auckland, and attends Avondale College. His mum is hoping to see him fulfil this dream. He has huge potential in this sport and lots of enthusiasm and drive.
Tremayne is looking to be chaperoned over with a couple of other athletes and parents from his club. The training camp caters to athletes from ages 7-19, and they come from all over the world. Racers Track Club is based in Kingston, Jamaica and involves 3 flights just to get there via the USA from New Zealand. Once in Kingston, Tremayne will stay at the University of West Indies inside their student accommodation along with other International trainees. The camp will be for 2 weeks during the July school holidays, so he won’t miss out on too much school work in New Zealand.
Training starts at 6am every morning before the sun rises over the mountain, followed by a huge Jamaican breakfast, a small rest, then a big core and strength session (2 hours). After more Jamaican food for lunch, the campers rest and recuperate and avoid the sun, or cool off in the University pool. Then, the evening session resumes when the sun begins its descent. On Fridays, after the morning training session, the campers are taken on a field trip to either a waterfall or beach – to enjoy the beautiful parts of Jamaica, and to recover from a big week of training.
If you know Tremayne and know his family, you will understand this is a big undertaking; but his mum is not one to be deterred by such an obstacle if it means Tremayne can realise a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity like this. Tremayne himself is a fantastic kid, a real role-model to the Junior athletes at his athletics club, and also to his peers at track and field events.
I know Tremayne through the athletics club and his college and I'm motivated to help him (with his family) to take up the amazing opportunity, and to progress further with his athletics potential.
The money raised will go towards his return flights, and his Sprint camp costs for 2 weeks. Your support will make the world of difference to this young man.
Central-Western Zones Success for Tremayne 7 March 2018
A big thank you to everyone who has donated so far! Tremayne has made his target which is incredible. Thank you all so much for your part in his athletics journey. Tremayne has been very busy still with his athletics! This week, he competed for his school, Avondale College, in the Intermediate Boys division. He successfully won the High Jump event over other boys from Auckland Grammar, Mt Albert Grammar and a large number of other schools also trying to take an automatic qualifying spot for Auckland Zones Champs. Tremayne won the High Jump with a clearance of 1.70m. He also came 3rd in his 100m hurdles race, and helped his Intermediate boys team as the starter runner for the 4x100m relay. We are delighted he continues to enjoy success this half of the season. At the end of March is the Auckland Zones Champs - can't wait!
