Help us help our Pepper.

Pepper is our 10 month old British Bulldog who was purchased from a MDBA registered breeder in Nov 2024. We believed we were bringing home a well bred, healthy puppy.

In Feb 2025 after we took Pepper to our vet for a limp, she was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia, a dislocated left hip and a luxating patella.

We were then refunded the $4000 we paid for Pepper and her contract was voided. Contact has since been ceased.

Peppers medical bills are mounting up quicker than we can blink. To date we have had to switch her onto vet prescribed food, purchase special bedding, supplements and added gates to doorways in our home so she can’t access stairs. She has had x-rays, multiple vet visits, medications and received the first of her surgeries on the 20th of March which was the FHO procedure on her left hip. To date we have spent $2333.71 on vet bills alone. This doesn’t include the unpaid time off work I had to take to look after her during recovery.

Pepper now has MPL surgery booked with Massey on the 27th of May. This surgery will be to fix her patella - the quote for this is $3,500 - $4,500. As we live in South Taranaki this is going to add travel costs to and from her appointments.

Her breeder failed to fully health test their breeding dogs. Despite knowing the health issues that are present in their lines, the stud is still being used to produce litters. Families like ours don’t deserve this, we are totally heartbroken by the entire experience with them.
