This is a page to raise money for life saving surgery for my mum's companion dog, Maggie.
Timaru, Canterbury
Maggie is a Shih-Tzu Maltese and is only 17 weeks old.
She was purchased in good faith to be 100% healthy and become a companion dog for my mother who has early on-set dementia.
Unfortunately at Maggie's second vaccination it was noted that she was failing to thrive and weighed only 1kg after 12 weeks. This was the first warning sign of her potential condition.
Blood tests revealed she has a congenital condition which is a Portosystemic Shunt. Without surgery she may not live a very long life.
Maggie has already had an ultrasound, specialist appointment in Christchurch via Zoom and now she needs to have a CT dye contrast to determine whether Maggie is a candidate for lifesaving surgery to close off the extra shunt coming from her liver.
Maggie is so full of life and next level clever and cute and means the world to my mum.
This scan is not cheap and beyond my mum's means so we are reaching out to raise enough money so Maggie can have this CT. The cost is up to $3300 for the CT and a further $8,000 if she is a candidate for the surgery.
Maggie is insured but because this is a congenital condition she is not covered.
If you were to meet her and see the joy she gives my mum you would understand why we are trying to give this wee dot the best chance of life.
Any support you can give would be amazing. Thank you.
$3300 will be spend on the CT dye contrast scan for Maggie to determine whether she is a candidate for life saving Portosystemic shunt surgery. A further $8000 will be required for the surgery which will enable her to live a long and happy life.
Maggie has had her operation 13 December 2024
Hi, Maggie had her operation in Rangiora on Tuesday. It was not as straightforward as we hoped it would be and there were some complications. The 'shunt' that is affecting her organs is only the size of a piece of cotton thread and the Vet surgeon had difficulties with the procedure. We will know more in time. Meanwhile we have managed to get Maggie home, despite being delayed by scrub fires and car accidents on State Highway One and a visit to the Lincoln Vet for medication support. She has had lots of 'loves'. If her tiny body can survive the first 72 hours then that will be a milestone. Thanks for your support.
Thanks so much Adam. Appreciate your support for Maggie
Really grateful for your support. The scan is on Tuesday so we'll have a better understanding after that. We are setting up a FB page to keep donors updated on the progress. Thanks again.
Thankyou do much for your generosity. We have a long journey ahead but with your donation we are a little closer. ❤️ on behalf of my mum, we are very grateful.
