Please help support my sister Melita, mother of two, with her battle against bowel cancer.
Waikato
I'm fundraising for my little sister Melita and her family. Melita and her husband James have two beautiful children aged 6 and 1.
On the 3rd March 2015 during a routine procedure, a tumour was discovered in her bowel and biopsied. 10 days later, much to our family's shock, the results came back showing the tumour was an adenocarcinoma (bowel cancer). Unfortunately this required a major operation (a right hemicolectomy) to remove part of Melitas' bowel in the hope to remove the cancer in its entirety. Once the histology report came back we found out that the cancer had spread through the bowel wall and into the surrounding lymph nodes, making the cancer stage 3, requiring a 6 month treatment of chemotherapy.
As a family we would love for Melita to be able to take the time off work to fight this battle during her treatment and recovery, and this is why we are fund-raising to help cover her loss of income for the 6 months of chemotherapy and the recovery time thereafter allowing her to concentrate on her health. In this difficult situation, it is hard to find a way to help. I never pictured I'd watch my little sister go through such an illness like this. Any help will not only contribute to her recovery time, it will be greatly appreciated and never forgotten.
Last round of chemo completed! 15 November 2015
Melita has completed last round of chemo which is great news. On a less positive note Melita has recently had a CT scan which has shown up a .5cm growth in her lung. They can not yet biopsy the growth as it needs to be 1cm in size to do this. She will be having another CT scan in january to see if this has grown. Melita is having a colonoscopy on the 24th nov we are hoping this will show the bowel is clear of cancer. Another thank you to all the support and donations as this has enabled Melita to take this time to concentrate on treatment and her health. Melita is due to return to work on jan 11th, a new year a new start and hopefuly
good health too.
