Monty and Meesha - our pet cockatiels are in need of some TLC. They are much loved pets of our community based, not for profit ECE centre.
Auckland
Monty and Meesha, our two pet cockatiels need your help!
Having been permanent residents of our community based early childhood centre in South Auckland for the last three years Monty and Meesha are loved by many.
They have given so much to our centre and have provided countless learning opportunities for our children, such as the development of empathy, care for others and the environment, healthy eating, and development (our cockatiels had their first chicks a few months ago and we had the privilege of being able to watch them grow).
We would like to ensure that they have long, healthy, happy lives.
I am a member of management in the early childhood centre and can not bear to see animals suffer. I am unable to afford the full amount on my own and as a community based not for profit early childhood centre, the centre is unable to carry the cost also.
A recent trip to the vet showed that Monty and Meesha are not very well.
Monty's kidneys are not functioning as well as they could be so his body is working overtime to accommodate for this.
Meesha is likely to be calcium deficient due to having several chicks recently and both parents assisted in the rearing and feeding of these chicks.
We have been told by the veternarian that care is likely to include blood tests, faecal & crops, examination fees, and medicine. Estimated at over $1000.00.
A huge thank you! :) 17 March 2017
Kia ora whanau,
A huge thank you to each and every one of you for your tremendous support of Monty, Meesha, our tamariki, and whanau. Together we have raised $200.00 through Give a Little, $160.00 through chocolate sales, and $40.00 in cash donations. Thank you so much!
With your support we have been able to take both Monty and Meesha to the vet. They have been treated for mites, a yeast infection, and kidney inflammation. Meesha has had a blood test which was clear and Monty is due for his blood test in the coming weeks. Monty and Meesha are currently on medication and their diet is supplemented with calcium and an array of vitamins.
Our tamariki at the centre have been asking a lot of questions about the birds and their health and this has opened a number of dialogues into keeping ourselves healthy.
The children have demonstrated a growing capacity to express empathy and compassion and have shown great concern over the welfare of Monty and Meesha. It has been an invaluable learning opportunity for all of us.
We would really love to show you our appreciation for all of your support and have a special surprise for each of you . Once again, thank you so much for all of your support.
Kind regards,
Some very happy children.
P.S We have included scanned receipts from our trips to the vet for reference.
Kia ora Renee, thank you for your generous donation. Monty and Meesha appear to be feeling better already - they have been singing and are getting super chatty with the children. We hope to be off to the vet in the coming week. Kind regards, Aroha
Thank you Mike for your wonderful support. Monty and Meesha seem to be doing much better - they're singing and chatting with the children. We hope to go to the vet this coming week. Kind regards, Aroha
