In the wake of Cyclone Pam there is mass destruction. The biggest destruction is to those families that have been ripped apart.
Bay of Plenty
The village of Lamkail is located on Tanna Island, Vanuatu. In the wake of Cyclone Pam, pictures show us that there is mass destruction of housing and infrastructure, leaving these already under privileged people with nothing but the clothes on their back. They live in thatched housing, with minimal access to electricity, healthcare and schooling, all of which has been destroyed in the wake of this cyclone. The people of Vanuatu are generous and kind and trying their utmost to do the best for their families. It will take a long time to rebuild their lives, houses and villages.
We have been supporting this Village for a number of years and want to do as much as we can to help rebuild their homes and lives.
All money raised will be placed into a NZ bank account and then transferred electronically to the local village account held by resident, Jimmy Iata, to ensure the money is used to actively rebuild their lives and create a healthy and successful future
We have been supporting this village for a number of years, initially meeting through their work as RSE (Regional Seasonal Employees) in the Kiwifruit industry. We have spent time in the village, helping to erect new housing for the locals and from New Zealand, gather clothing/housewares/baby care items for the ever growing population.
Food is running out! 22 March 2015
People in Vanuatu eat off the land. All of their food comes from what they grow or raise (chickens, goats, pigs). Cyclone has uprooted and destroyed all of their crops which means that food is running out... FAST. It is going to take months if not years to get crops to a sustainable level and these people will rely on the generosity and aid of others to survive! Please donate money so that we can get ensure that these people have access to food.
Thank you!
