I need financial support to fix the severe damage done due to another yacht crashing into mine.
Bay of Plenty
I have owned and lived on "Wake up!" since March last year and we have travelled the coasts of New Zealand together after I renovated her while I was studying towards a degree in Biological Sciences. This boat is my home, has provided good times for more than 200 people so far as a symbol of freedom and environmental and social change.
I came back home to my boat on Monday the 11th of February after spending two weeks on the South Island, only to discover that another yacht drifted into mine. The boat “Spruce Goose” drifted on its anchor and the anchor chain got wrapped around my mooring line which caused both boats to rub against each other overnight. All the rubbing opened up the kauri hull of my yacht “Wake up!” making it impossible for me to sail. Luckily all damage has happened above the water line but “Wake up!” needs repairs done urgently to prevent any water from coming in which can easily happen as soon as the weather changes.
The owner of the other yacht has contacted me but he does not have his boat insured so it is unclear how he might be able to help me. My boat is also not insured at this point due to my “she’ll be alright” attitude. However, I somehow need to kick this dilemma out of the dirt and you can help me.
The costs for fixing the boat will be reasonable but I am currently not in the position to pay for it all by myself. I am also able to do most of the work myself borrowing tools and equipment from my awesome friends which cuts down on costs, but I will have to spend money for material and at least a full week of my time.
Please, help us get her back in the water quickly so that we can continue our journey.
P.S. Yes, I will get insurance again.

The hole is gone! 20 February 2019
It has been a freaking loooong week for me gathering tools from friends, teaching myself how to fix a ply boat and going through emotional ups and downs. Oh, and running a fundraising campaign. I do all this by myself and sometimes I wonder what it would be like if I wasn't single, haha :D. Anyway, I was overwhelmed by the amount of help I received, how smooth it all went down and how I somehow managed to not lose my shit because this was a huge challange for me.
I feel like I could write a book only about that week but hey, I got stories to tell so don't be shy to ask me what I experienced when you are seeing me next time.
I also got a hold of the owner of "Spruce Goose" and he turned out to be an awesome dude who offered his yacht in exchange for the damage done on my boat. It took me 48h to sell the old lady for $1200 to a friend who now can also live his dream of sailing and owning a yacht.
I might make a short movie with some clips I managed to take during this journey. There is only this picture I got for now. It shows to Mormon Elders and me right after we successfully closed the hole together. I was walking past them as they were fishing on the breakwater of the marina and they offered help which I was so greatful for. I made so many friends this week, feel much more integrated in the "boaty scene" around the Mount and simply seen as a dude who can do shit no matter how bad the situation.
Thaaaanks again. I am also calling this fundraiser off because selling this other boat makes it possible to maybe even have a celebration once the paint is on!
