An appeal for a brother who feels his life is a mess due to one silly old man mistake
International
Gareth Davies has lived in Southeast Asia for the past 40 years. He worked as a diver/ engineer on offshore oilrigs and was on the ground providing aid during the tsunami disaster in 2008. Gareth is now confined to a wheelchair with rheumatoid arthritis and a range of other health issues. His life revolves around caring for his own dogs, one of whom was also disabled as well as looking out for the many strays in his neighborhood. As a hobby while confined to his house, he began a collection of guns This proved to be a mistake, as the police raided his house and charged him with unlawful possession of firearms even though it was obvious there was no malicious motive or intention of violence. Gareth has spent all his savings on lawyer's fees and medical bills and faces a final court case on Christmas Eve. He is in need of NZ $6000 to pay his lawyer, renew his visa, pay for dental services and basic food. His biggest heartbreak is having to find adoptive homes for his dogs and say goodbye to them before he is imprisoned or deported from Thailand, the county he loves.
He is my brother
medical and dental expenses, food, renewal of visa and lawyer fees
Hope for the Hopeless 8 July 2025
Gareth has now been in a Thai prison for 6 months, with 2 and a half years to go. He has been in the same shirt and pair of shorts for all this time as it is very difficult to send him things from outside. What has been successful is sending some reading books and a pair of glasses to help deal with the isolation and boredom. boredom. Gareth is also able to purchase simple meals as an alternative to rice and salted fish. Medical care is poor however and ha still not been assessed for his gout and heart condition..He has lost over 25 kilos since being incarcerated.
