Mount Richmond Ōtāhuhu   8 March 2022

Hi all, thank you for your support the past 2 years to help us stop hundreds of healthy mature trees from being clear felled on our local mountain, which is our local park and reserve.

The Judicial Review Appeal for Owairaka has found a win for the trees, with 3 Judges unanimous decision to set aside the approved resource consent to fell any trees on Owairaka. This sets a precedent for the other communities including ours.

Our trees are not safe until this precedent is applied to all mountains.

Please continue to support if you can.

Ngaa mihi aroha Shirley Waru.

Thank you Harry, Mila and Poppy for your donation. The trees are very special providing our community an amazing place to walk, and our birds can’t do without them as we only have 8% of of tree canopy left in Ōtāhuhu/Mangere local board area.

Good morning Enrique, thank you for your donation. The trees are really important to our community and also to the birds that use them food, nesting and roosting. Let’s hope we can stop them from being felled this year as resource consent has been approved to clear fell these beautiful trees in our local park and reserve.

The deforestation around cities, especially Auckland area robs us of Our connection to Our unique wildlife - We need 'island' sanctuaries of trees so that our birdlife can get around our cities that we may enjoy & benefit from their visitations to our flax & kowhai and others or else we will become just another souless concrete money-hungry jungle - Perhaps we need to 'crop' the powers that are clearly incapable of doing the Right thing in these instances ~

Thank you Ross for your donation, I’m mystified as to why all our trees are being chopped down in Auckland. Ngaa mihi Shirley Waru
