Help a young paraplegic suffering from a rare sarcoma have a fun rest of his life!
Auckland
I’m Hyde! I'm a 24yo trans man whos been disabled from birth; I'm chronically physically & mentally ill, I've consistently been bed or housebound for around 8yrs due to my level of disability and lack of a wheelchair.
My main diagnosis is Neurofibromatosis-1, which causes tumors to grow anywhere in the body on my nerve sheaths. I have them in my entire torso, brain, spinal cord, and so on. It has also caused severe scoliosis which has had 5 surgical fixes as of now without success, and severe chronic pain. I also have Tachycardia which causes me frequent dizzy spells and poor balance
Since COVID my health has steadily worsened, in March 2020 I had spinal surgery to refuse my upper spine, fix broken rods, and insert a plate. In 2021 I had radiotherapy to an inoperable tumor thats causing loss of use of my arm. As of 2022 I've been slotted for another surgery to fuse my lower spine to my upper spine, which will disable me further. I've had to forfeit all my dreams and goals for career and school, and am unable to work. My mom has RA and is my sole caregiver, and also cares for my sister who is intellectually disabled from S4 brain cancer. Because of this shes also unable to work.
This chair would give me independence, mobility without pain, and a new lease on life!
**UPDATE 2023** this fundraisers goals has shifted due to me being diagnosed with terminal cancer that left me paralysed, please see updates!
All raised funds will go towards buying myself a new Kuschall wheelchair, and a SMOOV power assist unit to lessen strain and require less effort. If the goal isn't fully met the gathered funds will go towards at minimum purchasing the basic Kuschall chair.
***Please See Page Updates for changes in the use of funds***
