Six years fighting cancer - now Im asking for a little help to make every precious moment with my whānau count.
Ohinemutu, Rotorua
What a whirlwind of a story do I have for you but to keep it short and sweet, My name is Waipurukamu (Wai) for short and I have Stage 4 Terminal Bowel Cancer. I am on the biggest mission of my life and that is to stay alive and be around to enjoy all the ups and downs of life with my husband and boys. I have three amazing sons, a caring and loving husband who have been on this six year cancer journey with me.
When I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Bowel Cancer in 2020 I thought my world had ended. And there was a sudden sense of urgency to get things done, see things happen in the fear of missing out. Missing out on seeing my boys transverse through major milestones in their lives. The fear of missing out on retiring with my husband and enjoying some peace and quiet.
The radiation treatment in 2020 was unsuccessful so they had to remove the rest of the tumor. In the last six years the cancer has spread to my lung where I had more radiation and surgery and now it has spread further into my left chest wall.
I have a trapped nerve between the tumor amd some scar tissue that makes it very uncomfortable and difficult for me to sleep. Financially the costs of alternative treatment and on-going treatment and care is expensive. Fundraising here and there has helped my whānau like you wouldnt believe and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I am re-opening my Give a Little page in the hope that any money raised will help go towards on-going treatment and care for my cancer.
