We've heard some sad stories and had a few phone calls from Fibromyalgia sufferers in Invercargill who would like us to visit them.

One sad story that has touched my heart was a lady who was banned from the Physio Pool because she had scars on her body and the physio pool would have been the best thing for her recovery in terms of pain relief and exercise at the same time.

Apart from her, I have had other calls from Fibromyalgia sufferers and some stories have brought tears to my eyes. We really need funds to not only visit these ladies, but find a way to train those less familiar with using computers for Skype calls until we can get a support network running there.

Many of these women live in isolation working on farms on their own and need support and companionship. If we as individuals need friends how much more do these women suffering in pain, anxiety, depression and worst of all told off when their self-esteem is already at rock bottom and living in isolation need a little touch of friendship?

Please help us help them

Our team of 4 will be there not only to give a talk on various aspects of Fibromyalgia (all of us have Fibromyalgia except the driver - my husband). I was a Zumba and Yoga Instructor before falling ill myself and have slowly eased myself back into Yoga (definitely not Zumba!)

Our Fitness Programmes run in Dunedin are labelled FibroFit™ and we have run FibroFit™ Aqua which we hope to try at Invercargill's Fitness Pool Too.

Please support this course for these many women who live in isolation.

About us

Fibromyalgia is a silent disease. It affects 3-5% of our population and 80% of sufferers are women between the ages of 25-55.

The causes of Fibromyalgia are unknown. It may be a combination of several issues such as hereditary, trauma or a chemical imbalance. It is called a syndrome because it is caused by various disorders.

Fibromyalgia sufferers vary in the way the illness affects them. However, in general Fibromyalgia is marked by widespread, unexplained pain. The pain varies in locations from day to day or even within hours. Apart from pain 90% of sufferers experience severe fatigue and tiredness and unrefreshed sleep upon waking up.
