Jacob's Top Surgery

$2,240 of $30,000 goal
Given by 15 generous donors in one year

Please help me get a couple of things off my chest! Trans man fundraising for top surgery.

Wellington

Hi - I’m Jacob, a trans man here to ask for your help to raise money for my first gender affirming surgery.

In May 2019 I started taking regular testosterone injections, starting my medical and physical transition.

Since starting hormone therapy my voice has been gradually lowering and I have the beginnings of a glorious beard; these wonderful changes have also inadvertently heightened my awareness that the body below my chin is very much that of a female.

While this body dysmorphia can be somewhat lessened by binding my chest and packing my pants, the now daily chest binding is becoming increasingly painful and difficult.

Before any lasting damage is caused I want to continue my FTM transition journey.

I’m asking for your help to raise these funds as the public waitlists in New Zealand are so long and slow moving I just can’t wait for the governments help anymore and no insurance companies in NZ cover any part of gender affirming surgeries.

At this stage I’m looking to raise $30,000 to cover most of (hopefully all, it’s hard to get accurate quotes) the cost for my first surgery (a double mastectomy and chest masculinization), hospital time, follow up visits, and time off work to recover.

I really appreciate any help from kind donors who find this post, large or small - anything you can spare, is more than I had before.

Use of funds

To cover my first surgery, hospital time, follow ups, recovery time, etc.

If I don't meet my goal, I will save what I did raise till I manage to save the rest.

Any funds not used will be given to similar posts on here, and/or donated to queer NZ charities.

2022/2023 page update  14 November 2025

Its been a while since this page was active, I wanted to take a moment to update you on how these funds were used, and how things are going with me.

I unfortunately didn't meet my surgery goal of rasing 30k.

I had said I'd "save what I did raise till I manage to save the rest”, however I have actually used these funds for other transitions related bills that came up between when this page closed and now.

Donations from this page were used to help me buy new chest binders, cover ongoing doctor visits, and medication.

While this use isn't exactly what I'd said, I hope using the funds to still assist with my transition needs is acceptable to the wonderful donors who supported me.

So, how are things going now?

I am still trying to raise money for my chest surgery, and have started a new page (https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/jacobs-surgery)

This page didn't get me to the goal, but as my first fundraising attempt it did help me understand the process, and ensure I clearly state everything moving forward.
