Canterbury
Jacqui Akuhata-Brown is one of our best friends who has spent the majority of her life working in the health sector. Three months ago her world was turned upside down when she was diagnosed with terminal cancer affecting her kidneys and spine.
Jacqui has spent her life working within the health sector dedicating her time and energy to improving mental health and social services for others. A trained psychiatric nurse, and caring individual she now needs our support. Jacqui has been advised that she has 6-12 months to live and is no longer able to work. Her family has had to leave the Hawkes Bay and transfer to Christchurch to be close to extended family for support during this time and her husband has also had to leave his job to look after her.
They have a teenage daughter still at home. Jacqui's family have costs associated with the shift to Christchurch, medication, other health associated expenses and general living. There is also the possibility of special medication (Prembrolizumab and Axitinib) which may improve Jacqui’s quality of life. However, this isn’t funded by Pharmac.
Her friends have started this Givealittle page to raise money to support Jacqui, her husband Ku daughter Bree and sons, Tristan and Jeremy, during this heart-breaking time. As a friend Jacqui is always there for others. She is a kind, warm, bubbly person who nurtures others. She has a wicked sense of humour and we all want more time with her. We all love her dearly and thank you all for any support you can give to her cause.

We have not set a goal instead we are grateful for any contribution towards Jacqui's cause. Any funds raised will be used to support her with medication and health related costs as well as general family living expenses during this time.
Ongoing Support for Jacqui - Ku needs a Job in Christchurch 17 June 2020
The following is a message from Jacqui. She really needs the Canterbury network of employers and friends to help her out.
"My hubby needs a job in Christchurch. He is still in the North Island working. We can't afford for him to fly home every week so I only see him once a month. This is devastating for me as my cancer is terminal. I NEED HIM HOME! Please can any of my friends who have contacts in Christchurch help me out. He has a tertiary qualification in first line management, has every license you can get, does budgets, managed multiple sites, and up to 34 staff and contractors and is a great leader. His current employer has been amazingly supportive but unfortunately they don't deliver the same services here in the South Island. HELP HELP HELP ME PLEASE!"
