Help Jordyn ('Bluey') with his bucket list - spending time with his family and especially his son Richard.
Auckland
Jordyn, a member of local Randwick park youth leadership group Warriors Of Change, was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia in February 2013. His son was less than a year old.
He's put up a good fight, going through multiple rounds of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant (a pretty horrific process). The chemo had several complications, which resulted in other medical issues. All up he had spent nearly a year in hospital by early 2015. But the good news: the leukaemia went into remission.
Life went on: Jordyn went on being a father, partner, son, brother, nephew, cousin, moko - and studying design.
Until here we are in December 2016: the leukaemia is back, and this time it's not going away. Which is where you come in: Can you help?
On Jordyn's Bucket List is to spend some special time with his family, especially his partner and son. His absolute dream would be to take them to the Gold Coast for Richard's 5th birthday, or to Queenstown.
I'm Edwina, known to my friends as 'Ted.' Jordyn is the older of my two sons, and the father of my mokoboy Richard.
Heather (who's email this account is linked to) is our friend and is helping us to manage the page, because it's pretty full on going back and forth to hospital all the time, as well as supporting my other son.
Today's update: hospital and holidays 13 January 2017
Jord's family met with the hematologist and hospital social worker yesterday and have the following news they'd like to share:
Jord is trying some new medication and is waiting on a bioposy, which will help determine how long he has. The hematologist has strongly encouraged Jordyn to travel sooner rather than later, while he has a bit more energy. So mum Teddy is starting to get things together: she is investigating whether there is any travel insurance which would cover Jordyn to travel to Australia, and how long it would take to get passports. We'll have more updates soon. In the meantime, we'd love to get funds coming in so the family have money ready when they need it.
Jordyn's mum Teddy said today that it was hard to express how grateful she is for those who have donated to help their cause: "from the bottom of our hearts, we're so blown away, and so grateful."
