Loving Lucas needs your help

Lucas was purposely bred, born deformed at birth. His forelimb had a permanent and non reducible flexion of the carpal joint.

Canterbury

Lucas was purposely bred for money. Sadly born deformed, him and his brothers and sisters lay at the fate of death and had 24 hours to find homes. We took them into care, and Lucas was to stay with the 'breeder' but was handed over, after the other puppies ( the breeder sold before he called ) had sold for thousands- which in turn was supposed to pay for Lucas's surgery. Sadly this was not the case for poor Lucas. But lucky for him he's in a much better place now in our loving care. Below is a vet report of how he came to us and why we chose to have his leg amputated. We couldn't turn Lucas away after seeing him in his current 'situation' however this was an unexpected vet bill. Your support and gifts of funds is more than appreciated to help us along the way. Thank you from us here at K9 Rescue and kisses from our boy Lucas.

The lovely Team at MARSHALL & PRINGLE PETMED KAIAPOI kindly offered not only to perform his surgery but also Murray and his wife Barb personally donated $200 towards the cost. So very generous of them!!!

VET REPORT

A severe disability in the right forelimb rendering the limb virtually non-functional

Severe muscle wasting and bone atrophy through disuse below the elbow

Severe and probably permanent contraction of the flexor tendons in the caudal forearm and carpus

Possibly some loss of nerve function in the lower limb

Pressure sores which are painful and potentially could become infected

Probable shortening of the radius and ulna bones ( would need XRays to confirm this

About us

Here at K9 Rescue we believe " Love never fails "

With this in mind we have some wonderful programs set up and also in the process of being set up, which we truly believe will beneficial to everyone within our local community and coastal area.

K9 Rescue takes in dogs and puppies from local pounds, vet clinics and families who can no longer provide for them and give them adequate care.

We use a foster program, putting all rescues into appropriate family homes while waiting for their perfect forever home. All of our dogs and puppies are vaccinated, microchiped, registered, desexed and given any other medical care required before leaving for their new homes. This ensures they are having the best possible start and no more unwanted puppies will come from any of our rescues and into a community where they become unwanted and a statistic at a local pound.

Use of funds

The funds raised will go towards the leg removal and care of Lucas until he can finds a loving forever family of his own.
