Northland

Northern Pilgrimage with a difference!

In just a few short weeks, Cameron, Fr Dominique and the students will travel north to retrace the roots of Catholic faith in Aotearoa New Zealand.

But this year we will not simply be driving from place to place. Instead, we will kayak our way from Opononi, near the mouth of the Hokianga Harbour, to Motuti and Totara Point, paddling as far inland as Horeke over two days. Thus, we will experience the Hokianga as Bishop Pompallier and the early missionaries did, arriving from the water. Then, with feet back on solid ground, we will follow quite literally the footsteps of Pompallier in his journey east to Waitangi for the Treaty discussions. This will take three days, with stops in Okaihau, Kerikeri and, after reaching Waitangi, we will take the ferry to Russell, finishing on Divine Mercy Sunday with Mass at the Shrine of St Peter Chanel.

Our aim: to cover 100km in 5 days.

About us

‘Go, make disciples of all nations’ (Mt 28:19)

CDC is a nine month immersion in Scripture, prayer, philosophy and theology, lived in community open to mission.

Our students study philosophy as a preparation for theology. We challenge them to live a life of prayer and fraternal love, centred on the Word of God and the Holy Eucharist, free from attachment to social media and the culture of entertainment.

The formation offered at CDC includes personal studies, regular classes by specialist lecturers, spiritual direction, pilgrimages, retreats and conferences. Students share household tasks and leadership, and take part in outreach missions and recreation activities. All this supports a purification in the truth, opening the heart to a personal intimacy with Christ.

Use of funds

This pilgrimage is a major physical and spiritual undertaking. We need to pay for the hire of 8 double kayaks, 3 nights accommodation, fuel for support vehicles, and plenty of food to keep us energised along the way. The estimated cost for 15 people is $3,750: $250 per pilgrim.
