Kieran's Journey With Cancer.
Invercargill, Southland
Kieran is a young loving Father, Partner to Niki, Son and Nephew. In 2019 Kieran was diagnosed with testicular cancer they removed the testicle that was affected and we all thought that was the end of it, although we were told that there was a risk it could move elsewhere during the procedure.
Since then Kieran has undergone numerous regular CT Scans, x-rays and blood tests to ensure nothing else had come of it.
Fast forward to Mid 2021 a CT Scan showed Kieran had an enlarged Lymph Node near his lung, they decided it would be best for Kieran to have quick and aggressive Chemotherapy which consisted of 3 rounds over 9 weeks, he handled it like an absolute boss and his only side affect was fatigue.
Kieran had his last dose of Chemo on the 6th of December 2021 but by the 8th he was at his worst, unable to hold food down and a constant need to clear a build up of phlegm that was causing him difficulty with breathing. By the 13th things had got so bad it was decided the best place for him to be was hospital, they ran numerous tests and Kieran was placed on oxygen to help him breathe.
On the 14th of December it was discovered the Chemo had definitely done its job and the cancer was gone, but with that come the news that the Chemo had done damage to his lungs and he was kept in medical ward for 11 days.
They decided Christmas eve to let Kieran go home if he felt up to it despite there being no real change, Kieran felt okay and went home wanting to spend Christmas with His Beautiful family.
On Boxing day Kieran went down hill and his breathing was getting worse, unexpectedly but thankfully his district nurse came to check on him on the 30th who then made contact with the hospital staff who were looking after him and it was decided Kieran needed to be placed back in hospital, he was admitted into ICU.
Numerous tests were again ran and the results shocked us all, both Kieran's lungs had begun to harden and the left had a hole in the top so he was placed on a very high dose of IV steroids to try reverse the damage the Chemo has caused, They have also let us know that if the steroids do not work he will be looking at a lung transplant. Today they have decided the best option would be for Kieran to go to Dunedin via helicopter to ensure he receives the best care possible especially with having the long weekend ahead of us.
Both Kieran and his partner are unable to work at the moment and they also have a beautiful Little girl to care for, we have created this page in order to help them pay for things like food, accommodation, travel, bills and any other expenses while they go through this challenging time.
