KiwiChat Camp is a week long camp for school aged children using speech generating devices, their families and carers.
Nationwide
Following on from successful camps previously run in 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016, TalkLink are running another camp in 2018. Our Camp is unique, in that the Campers are all users of technology to help them communicate. Our Campers attend from all over the country with their families and carers to gain experience in using their communication systems, meet others using communication systems and to have fun. The Camp is held at Totara Springs in Matamata for 5 days. The theme of the camp in 2018 is 'Jungle'.
Each day of camp is structured so that intensive therapy is completed in the mornings and the afternoon will involve family and group activities and opportunities for everyone to practice the skills they have learnt in the morning.
A separate sibling recreation program will be run as well as a parent information sessions. Mentoring will be provided by experienced adult communication device users.
The attendees at KiwiChat camp have the opportunity to participate in activities that they may never have the option to elsewhere. This includes abseiling, attempting the Flying Kiwi and going down the 2nd longest Hydroslide in NZ!
