Supporting Kole in his road to recovery
Papakura, Auckland
On the 27th April Koles life was flipped upside down when he had a massive bleed in the brain while at work, this was the result of an aneurysm rupturing. We had been advised it wasn’t looking good however Kole is a fighter and he pulled through being in ICU in Auckland for 11 days followed by HDU then finally a move to the rehab ward at middlemore. In total so far we have spent the last 9 weeks 5 days in hospital while Kole has been working hard to regain as much function as he can.
Kole is the most amazing father and husband, along with being one of the loyalist people I know he would do anything for anyone. His life revolves around our kids from helping couch rugby league to being at home before and after school to ensure they had a parent there. He has been making amazing progress everyday in rehab our next goal is working to get him back home where he belongs with the kids and I, currently when he returns home we have been advised we won’t get much support and with my annual leave and sick days becoming nil I will be needing to take leave with out pay while we figure out what care Kole needs and if need be I will give up working.
There are a lot of unknowns in his journey and it will be a long road but a road we will support and help Kole in any way to gain as much of a normal life back as possible. Currently we are unsure what this will look like and if or when Kole would be able to return to work.
Kole is my husband and we have done life together for the past 17 years and just wanting to relive the stress of him being unable to work so it’s one less thing for him to think about at this time.
This will help with day to day expenses along with moving cost if we find a more accessible house and anything that can make Koles life easier around home in the car.
Coming home 11 July 2023
Today after 10 weeks and 5 days in hospital Kole got discharged it is full of so much happiness and mixed with a lot of nerves. We are slowly navigating what this means and looks like for us. Next week the community rehab kicks in with the SLT, OT and PT coming in home to do the sessions. We are still waiting on a needs assessment so we are just doing our best between kids myself and family to provide the care Kole needs. As you can tell the kids are so happy to have there dad home no matter what is involved 😍
