Let's Make Grunter Great Again

$25,510 of $50,000 goal
Given by 117 generous donors in around 6 months

Grant's cancer has returned very aggressively and has to undertake a 12 month course of drugs which is NOT funded by Pharmac or the Govt.

Henderson, Auckland

Grant, or Grunter as he is known, is in his 50’s and developed blood cancer in December 2022. He underwent stem cell treatment along with Chemotherapy and by December 2023 Grunter went into remission which astounded his doctors that he managed this so soon. This was no doubt through his positivity.

A few weeks ago, after feeling tired it was diagnosed that the cancer had returned but very aggressively. He now needs to undertake a 12 month course of drugs which are NOT funded by Pharmac or the Government, at a cost of $120K. This drug being Daratumbumab.

While he and his partner Karen have arranged for most of the funds for this treatment, there will be on going admin costs and Grant has not been able to undertake his work at Glen Eden Primary school where he is a much-loved caretaker. Any funds not used for the drug will be available to Karen and Grunter for general living expenses as Grunter is unable to work a full day or week at the moment & unlikely will be able once on the drug.

Grant is a life partner to Karen, a father, grandfather, a friend to many, life member at his beloved Waitemata Rugby Club where he still is manager for the Premier team. You could categorise him as the ultimate club/team man where he still cooks for all of those at rugby trainings on a Thursday night. His positive and fun attitude has endeared him to all.

Never one to seek the limelight or accolades, we think Grunter deserves another crack at life so your help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Use of funds

Grant has blood cancer and Pharmac do not fund this particular drug, Daratumbumab. Grant may also lose or have his work hours reduced shortly. Besides the $120K for the Pharmac drug, there are other costs from Pharmac coming in now. If we do not raise the $50k, all the funds will continue to assist Grant and Karen.

Making Grunter Great Again  30 April 2025

It is with regret I need to inform you that Grant has passed away on Saturday 26th April, so no further funds are required.

I thank you all for your generous donations over the last few months that gave Grant a shot at life but alas the prescribed unfunded drugs didn't help.

Thanks again for your help for one great man who was loved by many.

Warm regards,

Garry
