Bay of Plenty
Louis Grindrod has suffered a spinal cord injury on the 25th of June 2016 playing rugby for TBC 2nd XV.
The injury has initially left him with no sensation across his body. Louis has had an operation at Napier Base Hospital to correct his neck dislocation, and is being transferred to Middlemore Hospital.
Thankfully Louis has had some sensation returned, and we are hopeful of a full recovery. He has a Halo Neck Brace fitted to aid his recovery, and will be wearing it for the next 6-10 weeks.
Initially, the Grindrods' will be incurring significant travel and accommodation costs, and other costs associated with ‘living’ away from home so they can be with their son to support him. Louis’ parents are sole operators of a business in Tauranga, and have had to close their business which will mean a significant loss of income for the family.
Unfortunately Louis' rehabilitation will not be a short one, and there will be many ongoing costs (not covered by DHB etc), so your support will help enable the family to focus on his recovery! Thank you.
TBC have set up this page to enable the TBC and wider community to provide support for the Grindrod family.
