Leanne’s road to recovery
Motueka, Tasman
You only have to meet Leanne briefly to know what a lovely person she is, her smile lights up the room. She is always there to share a smile, kind word, or is doing something to make others laugh. She is a devoted wife, mother to three and grandmother to her six gorgeous grandchildren. On the 7th of July Leanne was involved in a serious car accident sustaining 4 fractured ribs and sternum, 2 fractures of cervical spine, 2 fractures to one ankle which required surgical reconstruction as well as a punctured lung and severe bruising. Her road to recovery is going to be long. The reason she was driving to Nelson that morning was to attend a scan as she had just found out that she has endometrial cancer. With an unknown treatment plan ahead for the cancer, the long recovery from the accident as well as working full time AND just having started a new business with her husband and having just bought their own home it’s fair to say that Leanne and her family have a lot on their minds! The reason for this page is to ease the financial burden so that her loving family can be close by to support her during her recovery and future cancer treatments. The funds raised will go towards the cost of travel, food and alternative treatment options for cancer and what ever else Leanne and her family may need to make her recovery easier. It’s time to give back to this wonderful woman. Thank you for sharing this page and for any and all donations!
Friend’s mother
Travel, food and lost wages & mortgage. Funds will be paid to Rachel Smits (daughter in law of Leanne).

I will never be able to thank each one of you enough for becoming a part of my life and recovery.
Thank you for supporting my family and I in so many ways. It has meant so much to us all.
I am doing really well and I see small improvements most days. I still want to cry at times. I still need a lot of rest, but I have plenty planned to help me get stronger and more mobile in the near future. I’m told it may be a lengthy process – but that’s OK. One day at a time.
As far as my recent diagnosis is concerned, I have a surgery date for early September and will know more after that. I am still feeling positive about it.
I will do occasional updates on Facebook if you want to check in from time to time, but for now another huge thank you for your support and kindness.
It’s truly been a humbling and unforgettable experience.
Love From Leanne xxx
