Helping our family during our darkest times.
Te Aroha, Waikato
Matt was born with congenital heart defects, he has had several open heart surgeries. The last one involved a mechanical heart valve. This requires lifelong blood-thinning medication and monitoring.
Despite this, he has always been committed to helping others. He works as an ambulance officer and has been studying paramedicine, with this year being his final year toward becoming a qualified paramedic. He is involved in his community. He is a devoted husband and father, who loves his baby and family deeply.
Recently, he suffered a brain aneurysm, causing a massive bleed in the back of the brain. Because of his blood thinners, the bleed progressed rapidly. He was rushed to hospital for emergency neurosurgery.
He is now in ICU, critically unwell. At this stage, he is unable to work, and his recovery is uncertain. Brain injuries are unpredictable, and there is no certainty.
The family lives an hour away from the hospital and has a baby to care for. Alongside the emotional toll, they face financial pressure, loss of income, travel costs, time off work, and the unknown needs that may come with rehabilitation and recovery.
This Givealittle has been set up to help the family during this challenging time, to cover living expenses, travel to and from the hospital, childcare needs, and any support his recovery may require.
Anyone able to donate or share this page is deeply appreciated. Even messages of kindness and support mean the world.
Matt's wife.
Travel costs. Cost of living. Modification of home.
The fight is over. Rest easy My Love. 17 July 2026
Matthew's fight ended in the early hours of Friday 17th July 2026. He was taken back to ICU after contracting another infection in his CSF (brain fluid) he had a seizure which caused catastrophic brain pressure. Matthew would not be able to come back from this.
Matthew does not have life insurance to cover his send off. We would appreciate any contribution to help us with this next most difficult step in what is our new life without a husband and a father for Louie.
