Raising money for treatment to beat breast cancer
Maya is a dedicated mother of two young children and a loving partner to Caleb. Just recently, Maya and Caleb opened a boxing gym in Whangārei, with the dream of giving their community a safe space to train, grow stronger, and improve their health. The gym was set to be a new, exciting chapter for their family, providing a place to connect and support others.
One week before their grand opening, Maya was devastatingly diagnosed with stage 3, triple negative breast cancer. The most aggressive form of breast cancer, challenging to treat and has higher rates of recurrence. This diagnosis has completely changed their world. Maya now faces months of treatment, which will make it impossible for her to work and help manage the new gym.
On September 23, Maya will begin chemotherapy. Unfortunately, she is not eligible for funded Keytruda, a treatment that could significantly improve her chances of beating this cancer once and for all by 15%. To access Keytruda, the cost is a staggering $100,000, which is beyond what the family can afford on their own.
We are reaching out to our community, friends, and anyone willing to help give Maya the best possible chance at recovery. Your generosity will not only support her treatment but also allow her to focus on her health and her family during this incredibly difficult time.
Every contribution, no matter how small, brings Maya one step closer to the treatment she needs and the future she deserves. Thank you for standing with us in Maya’s fight.
Maya is one of my closest friends
Funds will be used to fund the treatment & to reduce any financial pressure whilst Maya undergoes treatment.
Thank you 💕 7 October 2024
Thank you sooo much to everyone for donating towards making this treatment possible!! My family and I cannot be more grateful! 🙏🏼 I am speechless at how many amazing people I have in my life who have reached into their hearts to support me, and even the generosity of strangers 🥺
I am into my third week of chemotherapy now, out of a 6 month period. I also had my first round of Keytruda last week, funded by my lovely parents, which is recommended for 12 months if I can fund the full $100k! I am on my road to recovery, getting used to the new routine and schedule, and am feeling good so far.
You may have heard that Keytruda is now being funded by the government. This is amazing news for many cancer patients, however it is only funded for Stage 4 but not Stage 3 for my type of cancer. Regardless, this treatment is the international standard for Stage 3 triple negative breast cancer, and has been the standard of care in the UK for 15 years with good survival rates. So I am dedicated to giving myself the best shot I have, especially for my kids ❤️
