Diagnosed with cerebral palsy & severe epilepsy, Millie now faces a critical brain surgery to have a chance at regaining essential abilities
Southland
Little Millie has been a fighter since birth, but now she faces her biggest challenge yet: a life changing brain surgery on February 27th. We're reaching out to ask for your support as she and her parents, Georgia and Tyrone, navigate this difficult journey.
Millie suffered a prenatal stroke that led to cerebral palsy, and at 16 months she was diagnosed with epilepsy- a battle thats only grown more intense.
By 3.5, Millies epilepsy was so severe that she had lost many of the abilities she fought so hard to gain, like walking and talking. High-dose steroids have helped to restore these functions temporarily, but they aren't a sustainable long-term solution. Without brain surgery, she will continue to decline physically and cognitively.
Her medical team have determined that a hemispherotomy (disconnecting the damaged left side of her brain from the right side, and brain stem) is the best and only option for Millie.
While her surgery is fully funded, her family faces many additional costs, including an extended hospital stay at Starship and months of rehabilitation in Auckland. Any support would mean the world to them.
Thank you for standing with Millie and her family on this journey.
I’m a family friend of Millie, Georgia and Tyrone’s.
The money will be used to cover household costs for the many months away in Auckland. Travel for Millie’s Dad, Tyrone to be able to visit them and any other essential therapies, care and equipment they may need for Millie to fully recover.
